Frequently Asked Questions

General questions about EPCM and our services

EPCM stands for Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management.
Engineering Experts designs the project, manages the procurement of materials and services, and then oversees the construction phase. The execution is carried out by selected contractors, while we ensure quality control, scheduling, safety, and coordination.

The fundamental difference between the EPCM, EPC, and Design & Build (D&B) models lies primarily in the degree of responsibility borne by the contractor and who retains contractual ownership of the project.

  • EPCM stands for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management. In this model, you as the client remain more involved by acting as the contractual owner when purchasing materials/equipment and contracting services from suppliers and contractors. The EPCM contractor functions as a project manager, overseeing the design, procurement, and construction on your behalf. This provides flexibility and greater cost transparency, making it ideal for complex industrial projects that require significant customization.
  • EPC means Engineering, Procurement, and Construction. In this setup, a single party assumes full (turnkey) responsibility for the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the facility. The end goal is the delivery of a fully operational system. The EPC contractor typically provides extensive performance guarantees regarding the functionality and capacity of the completed project.
  • Design & Build (D&B) is a model in which the contractor is responsible for both the design and the construction. Although it resembles EPC, D&B is often applied to buildings and is generally less focused on commissioning and the extensive performance guarantees that are typical of an industrial EPC contract. In other words, D&B entails a less extensive level of responsibility than EPC.
